"Hamilton Farms Weddings"
Responsive Web Design
The Platform
Hamilton Farms Weddings is a hypothetical wedding venue booking site with the ability to book outside/additional wedding related services, such as floral arrangements and catering options. From exploration of the grounds to booking, users can plan their weddings with ease.
My Role
For this project, I am both the lead UX Designer and UX Researcher.
The User
2 of the main user profiles are couples planning their own wedding (between the ages of 21 and 45) and wedding planners. Users need to be able to book the venue, Hamilton Farms, and add additional services to their booking summaries without being redirected to third party sites.
The Process
Lo-fi digital wireframes were produced using Adobe XD. The designs were iterated upon multiple times to better fit the user's needs that were identified through user testing and feedback. Hi-fi prototypes were then produced to reflect the most updated and best aligned design to the user experience and their needs.
Testing
Users that fit the main user personas were interviewed before accessing the site to gather data about needs and pain points that are experienced during the wedding booking process. An unmoderated usability study was conducted once the site was in the prototype phase. The videos were evaulated to identify any pain points the users experienced during the booking process and they were offered a survey after completing the task to gather any additional data and feedback about their experience.
Pain Points and Solutions
Using unmoderated usability testing and surveys, I identified 3 major pain points that were then addressed during the iteration process.
The need for clearer access to accessibility options
Booking summaries located in a "cart" or "basket"
A more comprehensive "About Us" page with information and background about representatives that user's may be paired with after the booking process is complete
The first of these pain points was addressed by creating a bold font for the "Accessibility" path so that it is more recognizable to users and easier to see.
For the second pain point, a "basket" icon and pathway were added to the top right of the screen so users could easily access their carts and see what items they would be booking before being routed to a checkout page.
Finally, the "About Us" page was updated to include staff bios with photos so that prospective clients knew more about the experience and background of the possible representatives they'd be contacted by after booking.
The Design
The sites color palette reflects Hamilton Farms Weddings brand identity by keeping in touch with minimalistic and nature-focused themes with elegant and simple font styles.
Three fonts were used throughout the site, all using a sans serif style to attain a sleek and clean look.
"Gallery X"
Mobile App
The Platform
An app created for a hypothetical gallery, "Gallery X," that includes general information about the gallery and its events with a focus on artist biographies and the introduction of a new feature: the ability to export citations directly from artist biography subpages to outside sources. This feature also includes the option to save and "favorite" artist biography pages as well as generated citations to their user profiles.
My Role
For this project, I acted as Lead UX Designer and Lead UX Researcher.
The User
The main user profiles identified were college aged art students studying toward a degree that would be find this platform useful for research papers and presentations as well as professional artists aged 30-60 who use the platform to prepare for lectures, speeches, and for reference for their own art.
The Process
Paper wireframes were created to assess which layouts and features would need to be included and to evaluate what would be best for the user. Lo-fi digital wireframes were created and iterated upon multiple times to determine the best layouts and placement of key icons and prompts. This process was immediately followed by the creation of hi-fi digital wireframes and mockups that brought the brand to life and gave a clear picture of the flow and usability of the app itself.
Testing
Unmoderated usability testing was conducted to evaluate any pain points the user may encounter during the exportation user flow experience. Surveys were administered after to collect additional feedback from users that may not have been observed during the test phase.
Pain Points and Solutions
There were three main pain points identified within the first round of testing.
Access to accessibility options was limited
Information felt cluttered and busy, buttons and prompts weren't able to be easily differentiated from other text
Users were concerned about the reliability of information
The first pain point was addressed by included a locked accessibility icon in the bottom right corner of every screen so that users could access accesibility options, like text enlargement and text-to-speech at any point during the user experience.
The second pain point was addressed by included raised buttons in a brighter color than other text and accents throughout the app itself.
Finally, a disclaimer was added certifying that all information used by Gallery X was from primary and secondary sources that have been peer reviewed and approved by Gallery professionals that are trained and educated in art and art history.
The Design
The color palette is reflective of their brand identity. "Gallery X" uses pastels and a neutral grey tone for a fun and artsy feel.
The following fonts were used throughout the app:
